Close your windows- trucks and children are outside

For someone that does not like a number of children, I seemingly always find a way to defend them....which is what I am doing again NOW.

Here is the situation that brought me to today's topic.....The City of Edmonton apparently receives more complaints about loud mufflers and loud vehicles than any other sort of complaint. Those who drive noisey vehicles have a number of defenses
1. "we only get to drive our loud "hogs" 3 months of the year so let us have some fun" (buddy, since we only get 3 months of what is otherwise nice weather- which I cannot enjoy because of your damn muffler but that's besides the point).
2. "those who complain have nothing to do so you should ask those complainers to get a life" (really? like trying to get a 3 year old to bed in the evening is not doing something? Like trying to have a conversation on Whyte Ave with friends is not doing something? YOU'RE driving around aimlessly- YOU are not going anthing...but that's besides the point)

The WORST one- the WORST defense, and one that I often hear over and over and over again as a defense to so many accusations???
3. "well I don't like the screaching noise of your screaming child in the back yard or your crying baby on the plane but you don't see me complaining"

LISTEN ASSHOLE- being a child at some point in one's life is a fundamental right- no, ACTUALLY, it's nature, it's a part of life- it's not something you can take away beacuse it bothers someone and it's not something that you can fine or tax....

Everyone has been a kid, everyone has kicked a soccer ball over an old lady's fence (as per a complaint I saw on Yahoo.ca last week in which an old lady is suing the neighbours for the psychological damage the kids' recklessness has caused her), everyone has thrown a tantrum in public, everyone has cried because they were teething, everyone has mouthed off an adult and everyone has ran around a food court...even if it was only once as a result of a good parent's quick reaction to such poor behaviour- now that you are an adult, cruising around on your jack up truck with stupid loud muffler, now that you are an old bitter man who doesn't like a group of 12 year olds next door screaming on the tramoline- can you please explain to me how your playing of the drums loudly in your garage is the equivalent disturbance to that of simply BEING a child?

I'm sorry but a child has no other option but to BE a child. There are some things that no matter how awful or great the parent is, they will do- like laugh, like cry, like shreik in the presence of friends during an outdoor birthday party.
You, however, has the option of being a dick and reving your engine for 5 minutes outside of someone's home. YOU, however, CAN be an adult and ask the parents to mind their children, or realize that in the presence of your tolerance- you will find that others will tolerate your stupidness when you decide to have a kegger on your deck. YOU, can avoid the food court AND you can maybe stop, reflect and realize that life is happening around you...you just don't notice it because you are too busy being selfish and equating material accumulation and the right to OWN stuff, with that of just being.
